My Research
My research has focused on the geology
Mars for the past 9 years. Lately, I've been
working on characterizing water-mineral interactions on modern
and past Mars. I'm particularly interested in interactions
between perchlorate salts and seasonal/subsurface ices on
the northern plains of Mars.
I also
investigate the water cycle on Mars, including tracking the
seasonal carbon dioxide and water ice that covers the northern
plains in winter, and quantifying subsurface ice exposed by
the Phoenix lander and by recent craters. I am particularly
interested in the origins of subsurface water ice on Mars,
and the implications that frozen water ice has for past life
on Mars.
I serve
as a science team member for both the Mars
Phoenix lander and the Compact Reconnaissance
Imaging Spectrometer for Mars (CRISM).
