Jan. 87 Magner, J. Marshall Rails to Trails "Right of Way":  Opportunity to convert 200 mile
long abandoned MKT RR into a hiking/biking trail must not be lost.
Jan. 87 Tylka, Dave St. Louis Nature Center Site:  The MDC is in process of purchasing
a site near the intersection of I-44 and I-270 for a nature center to
serve the St. Louis area.
Mar. 87 Molyneaux, John Katy Missouri River Trail: Executive Board voted $50 to support
this trail proposal.  Dorothy Cole and John Molyneaux attended
promotional meetings for the trail.

starting a volunteer naturalist-volunteer specialist program to
broaden range of programs and specific activities that Rockwoods 
can offer.
Jan. 87 The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is planning 
Town Hall meetings around the state in early 1987 so the public
can comment on the programs and activities of the MDC.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Jan. 87 Hunt, James H. A Milestone Reached.  Transmits a copy of the Master of Science
Thesis of Anthony Rossi.  Mr. Rossi's project was supported by
the first Mickey Scudder Memorial Award.  Extends thanks to 
WGNSS
May. 87 Richardson, Marjorie Scudder Scholarship Award:  Jane A. Stevens of athe University of
Missouri, St. Louis, has been awarded the Mickey Scudder
Scholarship in Field Biology for 1987-88.  Ms. Stevens will be
researching "The Role of Ants in Reducing Herbivory on the
Trumpet Vine".
MEETINGS
Jan. 87 January WGNSS Regular Meeting will be held on January 9
at 8 PM at St. Louis County Library at 1640 S. Lindbergh (near
Clayton Rd.)  Mark Hall will present a program "Grand Canyon by 
Raft and by Foot"
Feb. 87 February WGNSS Regular Meeting will be held on Feb. 13, 
8 PM, St. Louis County Library.  Doug Ladd, Director of the 
Missouri Chapter , the Nature Conservancy will present a 
program:  "What is the Nature Conservancy".
May. 87 May WGNSS General Meeting will be held on May 8, 8 PM, at
St. Louis County Library.  Dr. R. Kleiger will talk on birding in 
Alaska.
Sep. 87 September WGNSS General Meeting will be held on Sept. 11, 
8 PM, at the Mid-County Library in Clayton  (New location)  Bruce
Schuette, Naturalist at Cuivre River State Park will talk about
"The Interesting Herpetofauna (aka reptiles and amphibians)
of Eastern Missouri"
Oct. 87 October WGNSS General Meeting will be held on Oct.9, 8 PM, 
Mid-Couny Library at Maryland at Central in Clayon.  Wildlife 
artist Rob Sadler demonstrates how easy it is to get started in
wildlife art.
Nov. 87 November WGNSS General Meeting will be held on Nov. 13, 8 PM,
Oak Bend Branch Library on Holmes Ave. (new location).  Mary
Wiese will present a talk on "The Tropical Rain Forest".
BANQUETS/SOCIAL EVENTS
Jan. 87 WGNSS Annual Spring Banquet is now scheduled for April 10,
1987, at Flaming Pit Restaurant, 11715 Manchester Rd. in
Des Peres.
Jan. 87 A WGNSS picnic is tentatively being scheduled for June 1987.
