scheduled immediate lumbering in areas to be designated as 
wilderness areas; contact your representatives in Congress.
Mar. 76 From the Open Space Council:  The Alpha Portland Cement Co.
has appealed a unanimous adverse decision of the St. Louis
County Planning Commission for a pemit to extract sand and
gravel from 500 acres adjoining the new State Park along the
Meramec River and Lone Elk Park.  Write your Councilmen

Sep. 76 Mastodon State Park:  History was made on Aug. 4 as 
Governor Bond presented a Check for $200,000 to members of
the Mastodon Park Committee (Mesdames Rita Naes, Marilyn
King, Hazel Lee and Dorothy Heinze) who spearheaded the 
effort to preserve the site as a state park
Nov. 76 Meramec Dam:  Governor Bond's decision to support a referendum
on the Meramec Dam is a major victory.

Oct. 76 Executive Board:  At its meeting in September the Board 
decided to contribute $150 to the Conservation Federation of 
Missouri for advertising the conservation tax proposal to be on
the November ballot.  It also voted to donate $100 to the Sierra
Club for the fight to stop the Meramec Dam.  Amendments to 
the WGNSS constitution re dues are also to be proposed.
