Oct. 41 A Mineral Prize Contest during Oct., Nov., and Dec. is 
announced.  Rules of contest and questions given.  Prizes will
be awarded.
Oct. 41 Petroglyphs (by the Geology Group)
Oct. 41 The Illinois State Geological  Survey is sponsoring a series of
earth history field conferences on Saturdays at various sites in
the state, the first in Bond County on Oct. 11.
Nov. 41 The Mineral Prize Contest - The second intallment of twenty-five

LODGE
Mar. 41 Open House at the Lodge, Sunday, March 30.  Hikes have been 
planned for different times of day.  They will be:
      8 AM - Bird Walk, lead by Harry Comfort and R. L. Hill
    10 AM - Geology Walk, lead by Magdalen Pfeffer and 
                 A. W. Dreyer
     Noon  - Coffee provided.  Each person bring lunch and cup
     2 PM - General field trip with emphasis on plants and 
                insects.  Leaders:  Maude Lodewyks, Arthur Christ, 
                Harold O'Byrne, and Hugo Preis
     After supper, if skies are clear, Irma Oeflein, Stuart O'Byrne,
     A. Obrecht, and Leo Rasche will lead an Astronomy section.
     During the day guests will have an opportunity to visit Museum
     and sit and think.  
Jun. 41 War Approaches the Lodge - The War Dept. is considering the
establishment of a munitions dump on the Ranken property 
adjacent to the Meramec River and the Frisco railroad, near
Tyson.  This should not disturb the Lodge but will interfere with 
one bird census route.
Jul. 41 Getting into the Lodge (where to get a key)
Aug. 41 Ranken tenants ask WGNSS members to use gates, not 
crawl under fences.  The Government has asked that members 
not go north of Hwy 66.
Oct. 41 The Lodge was recently broken into and a number of items 
stolen.
Nov. 41 Pfeffer, Magdalen The 1941 Woodcutting Bee (will be held on Sunday, Nov. 9)
Dec. 41 Museum Board Museum News - New book, Archaeology of Missouri, donated to
Museum by Phil Rau; meeting on Dec. 14 to classify all insects
in the Museum collection.

Jan. 41  Petersen, Oscar Bobolink - Tale about the one year old son of the Keeper of the 
Mansion.
Jan. 41 St. Louis Bird Club Meeting, 8 PM, Monday, Jan. 26, at the
  Adult Study Center, Lake and Waterman, St. Louis.  Guest
speaker will be Mr. Cleveland P. Grant, noted bird lecturer and
photographer.
Feb. 41 O'Byrne, Stuart Notes on Bird Distribution in the Ranken Area in the Year 1937 -
Distribution by habitat - Observers hiked 180 miles and counted
6365 birds.  Data presented in tabular form.
Mar. 41 Comfort, James E. A Bird's Eye View of Taum Sauk Mountain, Etc., Etc., Etc.
A humorous account of a Bird Group field meet on the mountain
which was beset by many problems, such as getting lost, falls, 
and other problems too numerous to mention.
Mar. 41 Eagle's Wings Over St. Louis - Mrs. Fred Pfeiffer reports having
seen a bald eagle winging over city streets in South St. Louis, a
spectacular bird for immediate St. Louis
Apr. 41 O'Byrne, Stuart Missouri's Highest Spot - Visit by party of five to Taum Sauk
Mountain, location of the high point benchmark, and some 
bird observations.  Bird life very scarce on mountain.
Apr. 41 Feathers Limited!  Joint paper by National Audubon Society and 
Feather Industries, Inc. advocating federal and state legislation
prohibiting all trade of plumage of wild birds for adornment of 
women's hats.  
Apr. 41 Jones, S. P. Semi-annual State Meeting of the Audubon Society of Missouri,
April 19th/20th, 1941, at Columbia, Missouri.  Keep the dates open
and plan to attend.
Apr. 41 St. Louis Bird Club News - The St. Louis Bird Club will have two
April meetings.   The first, 8 PM, April 3, at the Adult Study
Center, Lake and Waterman, presenting "Birding in Minnesota, by
W. J. Breckenridge, Curator of the Minnesota  Museum of 
Natural History.  The second, also at the Adult Study Center, will 
be on April 29 at 8 PM, and will present Mr. C. E. Gillham, 
Mississippi Flyway representative for the Biological Survey.

Mar. 41 O'Byrne, Stuart  Something to Do - One phase of nature study which our Society
has neglected is the studty of mammals. There are many mammal
forms in the Ranken fauna.  Let's consider the mammals.
Dec. 41 Blackwelder, Betsy A Visit to the Archaeological Sites in Jefferson County.  Of 
principal interest was a mound near Ware, Missouri, where 
a village of perhaps 1000 people once lived.
