Anorthosite

Anorthosite is a very unique type of rock. I spent the month of August 2007 studying anorthosites in Quebec, Canada. I am currently engaged in a petrologic study of anorthosites and associated norites, gabbros and troctolites in the Manicouagan area of the Quebec Province. The anorthosite has been called by Andre Gobeil et al. (2004) as the Lac Vallant Anorthosite, though this name does not encompass the entire anorthositic body in this area.

The photo below was taken on the peak of Mont du Lac de Cygnes and is part of the St. Urbain anorthosite. The St. Urbain anorthosite is part of the regional CRUML belt anorthosites described in detail by Robert Dymek and Brent Owens in several publications. (Swiss Army knife for scale)
