Undergrad Majors

If you are already on financial aid of some type, you can apply, if not already done, for support for summer field camp. This is in addition to your academic year award.

You should contact Professor Jen Smith (jensmith@levee, 5-9451) if you wish to apply for the Margaret Bewig Memorial Field Camp Scholarship.  This award is administered by EPSc, NOT by Student Financial Aid. It is awarded for academic proficiency and financial need. It is awarded directly to you.

All field camps must be approved in advance by your advisor (be sure a copy of the signed approval form is turned in to the EPSc Main Office).

Here's some more information about the Student Financial Aid process:

Eligible students: EPSc majors who are already receiving some form of financial assistance during the regular academic year.

Conditions: Requests for field camp aid are considered along with all other requests for summer school support.  No aid is guaranteed; the amount of the award is determined by several factors, including the funds available to the summer school for loans and scholarships, the total expenses, and the nature of expenses. Similarly, the type of award - loan, scholar-ship, or combination - is determined by the summer school and by Financial Aids.

 Procedure:

  1. Request the standard guidelines and financial aid application form for summer school from the Office of Student Financial Services.

  2. Download the EPSc "Approval of Summer Field Camp Selection" form or obtain a copy of the form from the EPSc Main Office.

  3. Fill out the forms (be sure to have your advisor sign the Approval of Summer Field Camp Selection form). On the Financial Aid form for the section "Why must you attend summer school?," write "Geology summer field camp requirement for EPSc majors."

  4. Attach a copy of the description and fee schedule from your field camp to document the amount of funding needed.
