Fluid-Driven Geochemistry

EPSc 547

L19

The study of mass transfer of major and minor elements by aqueous solutions in geochemical processes. Fluid/mineral equilibria, activity/composition relations, methods to calculate speciation and mass transfer, kinetic and fluid-flow controls of reaction progress. Lab ties calculations to natural samples. Applications may include soils, ore deposits, contact and regional metamorphism, magmatic/hydrothermal alteration and upper mantle metasomatism.

Prerequisites
EPSc 569 or permission of instructor

Schedule
Two class hours and one two-hour lab a week
