A one-semester course designed to introduce students to the study of the Earth as a dynamic, evolving planet, with emphasis on how internal and surface processes combine to shape the environment.

Themes will include:

  • Earth’s interior as revealed by seismic waves
  • Earth history and global tectonics
  • mountain-building
  • formation of continents
  • earthquake activity and volcanism
  • landscape evolution in a variety of settings
  • climate history and global biogeochemical cycles
  • atmospheric and oceanic circulation
  • ice ages
  • the influence of man.

NOTE- EPSc 201 replaces EPSc 200A; you can not get credit for both
