This image is from a scanned polished section of rock - a banded calc-silicate from the Cranberry Magnetite Mine, North Carolina. This rock is being evaluated for possible use as a natural mineralogic calibration target for the Athena Raman and Mössbauer spectrometers, Mars Surveyor Program.
