| Evolution of the universe, the Earth, and life, woven together in narrative. Themes of complexity, scale, entropy, and information applied to the Big Bang, origins of matter, formation and history of the Earth, origins of life and diversification of species. Discussion sections explore the implications of the scientific epic for religion, philosophy, the arts, and ethics. Three class hours and one one-hour discussion section per week. |
